Learn to skipper a short passage with the instructor on hand to give advice and encouragement and ensure your safety. Experience being in charge, taking credit when it all goes well and being responsible when it doesn't.
A skipper’s task is much more than just navigate. The skipper takes responsibility for the complete safety and well being of the yacht and crew.
These responsibilities include weather forecasting, how the equipment works onboard and be able to set and trim sail, a complete passage planning, watch keeping, navigation and pilotage. Skippering a yacht for the first time can be a dream for you. The RYA Day skipper practical course is developed by the RYA for you to make that dream come true. You sleep on board in different ports and after this course you will be able to "Take Charge" of your sailingyacht in familiar waters safely and with confidence. There's a maximum student to instructor ratio of five, so you're allways ensured of personal guidance during all practical courses.
A minimum of 5 days aboard, 100 miles logged and 4 night hours. Generally speaking, a Competent Crew course only does not give the necessary experience to become a Dayskipper. You are required to gain some extra experience with a Milebuilder or other trip before passing the Dayskipper course. You will also need knowledge at least up to the level of Dayskipper Theory before this course and be able to do the different exercices like navigating under sail, even in difficult and windy situations, in order to become a good and safe dayskipper.
