The road to Yachtskipper

CWO EXPLAINED

By Jur Ringers
CWO Instructor

Ahoy there! Whether you’re stepping on board for the very first time or already dreaming of taking the helm yourself, the CWO pathway is your route to becoming a confident sailor.

This isn’t just a checklist of skills. It’s a journey, from learning the ropes to leading the crew. With every level, you’ll gain experience, confidence, and a deeper connection to the sea.

The CWO (Commissie Watersport Opleidingen) is the Dutch national sailing certification system. It provides a structured pathway from beginner sailor to independent skipper through a series of practical competency-based levels.

At Zeezeilschool Scheveningen, all CWO training and assessments are conducted in Dutch and follow the official CWO standards.

Best suited for:

  • Dutch-speaking sailors
  • Sailors looking for a recognised Dutch qualification
  • Those wanting a structured progression from beginner to skipper

Choose Your CWO Level
